Plant Fibres

Plant fibres alone do not felt. The softer ones can be felted with the felting needle. When plant fibres are laid out on wool, the wool will grasp the fibres. You may need to cover the coarser fibres with a very thin layer of wool to bind them in tightly.

Flax (Linen) Flax can easily be needle felted with a course felting needle like green. It is also beautiful as hair for string puppets. If the head is stuffed with wool it can be needled right on to the head. Flax can not be wet felted on it's own. Card it together with animal fibre like sheep's wool or dog hair.
